Drayton Surgery   280 Havant Road, Portsmouth, PO6 1PA  Tel. 02392 370422

Surgery Times

The surgery is open from 8.15am until 6.30pm Monday to Friday.  We are closed at weekends and during bank holidays.  Please see surgery timetable as variations can occur.

Routine Appointments

Our clinics operate weekdays between 8.30am to 11.00am except Wednesdays when they begin at 9.00am.  Routine morning appointments can be booked up to four weeks in advance as well as on the day from 8.00am subject to availability.  Afternoon clinics run from 4.00pm to 6.00pm except on Fridays when they begin at 3.30pm.  These appointments can be booked in advance or on the day.  Remember: if you cannot keep an appointment please let us know

Often an appointment to see the doctor is not really necessary.  Our nurses are happy to do routine checks for blood pressure, HRT, pill repeats etc in their clinics.

Triage Clinic

This provides a five minute consultation for one problem. The clinic operates each weekday between 8.30am and 11.00am, except Wednesday, when it begins at 9.00am.  Patients are requested to telephone the surgery to access this clinic – you will then be advised of an attendance time.  This is not an appointment time and you may have to wait up to an hour to be seen.

The triage session is run by a doctor and a highly qualified triage nurse, trained to deal with many of the problems presenting.  The triage nurse may refer you to the duty doctor if she feels it is appropriate.  You will be called in the order of arrival, unless clinical necessity dictates otherwise.  Due to the unplanned nature of the triage clinic a considerable wait may sometimes be unavoidable.

Urgent Appointments

Every day there are times allocated for urgent appointments to be taken on the same day only.  If your problem cannot wait until the next routine appointment you will be seen at these times.

Please remember the times you are given for appointments are approximate, as some problems do take longer to deal with and delays often occur.  The doctor could also be called out of the surgery on emergency visits.

Out of hours and emergency calls

Always telephone (023) 9237 0422 first.  The surgery answerphone will give you a contact number for the out-of-hours service.  This is commissioned by the Portsmouth Primary Care Trust and provides cover between 6.30pm and 8.00am on weekdays and throughout weekends (Friday 6.30pm – Monday 8.00am) and bank holidays.  Please use this service responsibly.  Remember it is for emergencies only; it is not to be used to deal with any requests for repeat prescriptions or other non-urgent matters.
